Customization of company — it’s a cool idea — but does your company have what it takes? David Smith suggests companies should tailor talent management practices to individuals.

Smith is the managing director of Accenture and author of Workforce of One. He offers four ways to go about these customizations.

The first things is segmentation. He says employees can be divided up into work groups based on differing factors, in some cases, even well-being. Second, is offering modular choices; people have different learning styles, so why not adapt to those? Third is creating broad and simple rules. Often, companies set too specific of rules that wind up constraining creativity. And lastly, is personalization. Let the employee make the company fit them.
