While the 19th century fought against slavery, and the 20th century battled totalitarianism, the 21st century’s struggle, surprisingly, is gender inequity. We don’t see it here in the United States, but across the world, babies aborted merely for the fact that they are female, families remove their daughters from school because they feel it is a “waste of money,” and many other atrocities are committed. Sheryl WuDunn, the lecturer in this video, will wow you with stories of these horrible crimes and brutality.

It’s a great talk, but political correctness has apparently found yet another victim. How can there be an honest lecture on the oppression of women, without even a mention of Islamic Sharia Law, expanding throughout the globe, which makes virtual slaves of women and condones “honor killings” of mothers, daughters and sisters how dishonor the family?

Sheryl WuDunn is the co-author of Half the Sky, a book that investigates the oppression of women throughout the world. She is dedicated to showing how educating women provides one of the highest returns on investment, and how communities that do educate their women, can bring themselves out of poverty.
