Do you admire those who can keep their serenity, inner strength and confidence in tough times? Do you wonder why you can’t attain that same happiness while others can? Buddhist monk, photographer and author, Matthieu Ricard, argues that this can be obtained by anyone through mind training.

Until about 20 years ago, the mind was thought to be fixed by adulthood with little room for change, but recent research has found that the mind is more malleable than we once believed. Ricard argues that if happiness is a state of mind that controls our well-being, then that state of mind can be transformed, making us happier. And he tells us how.

He also makes the point that if people and societies spend so much money and time on training for education and fitness, shouldn’t we also make an effort to increase the quality of our life experience by devoting some time to mind training? Ricard describes the end result as being similar to a mirror — where even if ugly faces are made in its reflection — the mirror stays the same.
