Around 14% of Americans now consider themselves nonreligious, and this number is on the rise. Religion can be a deciding factor in how to live one’s life, so it is imperative we ask ourselves the question: does God truly exist? With the science of today, can a reasonable case still be made for God?
Frank Turek says he can make a case for the existence of God using science, but Christopher Hitchens debates that it’s not so optimistic. Turek is the co-author of I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Athiest, and Hitchens is author of the bestseller, God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything.

I have to say Turek did better here, even though I don’t agree with him in the least–certainly not his conclusions all the way to Christianity. Hitchens, while clever, didn’t stay on point or answer Turek’s assertions in an intellectually defensible way.
I love and agree with Hitchens, but I think he shot himself in the foot in this debate. Turek was the bigger man. Hitchens, while he certainly has some valid points, is not consistent and seems to value wit, fun, and fvcking the man more than actually doing a good job in debate. He’s punk like that. It’s why we love him.
Absolutely not the person to defend secularism against the foremost and best Christian apologist however. I could have done a better job, and I’m sure someone else could do even better if ze put in the time.
