Dante is an Italian poet, known as the “Father of the Italian language.” Dante is the author of the Divine Comedy, as well as many other works, such as Vita nuova, Convivio, De vulgari eloquentia, and Epistle to Cangrande. These works are all critically analyzed as part of Yale Professor Giuseppe Mazzotta’s course, Dante in Translation.
Professor Giuseppe Mazzotta is a Professor of Humanities for Italian at Yale University. His focus is on medieval as well as Italian literature.
He discusses Dante’s work in relevance to its intellectual and social value during the Middle Ages, in addition to political, philosophical and theological concerns.
