John Milton is an English poet and author, best known for his epic, Paradise Lost. Milton’s work was controversial and had great influence on English poetry. This Yale course focuses on Milton’s poetry, as well as a focus on his literary sources, his contemporaries, and his prose.
Italian poet Dante is known as the “Father of the Italian language.” He is the author of the Divine Comedy, as well as many other works such as Vita nuova, Convivio, De vulgari eloquentia, and Epistle to Cangrande. These works are all critically analyzed as part of Yale Professor Giuseppe Mazzotta’s course, Dante in Translation.
