There are differing views when it comes to calorie restriction, but Paul McGlothin is here to dispel any rumors. If you have not heard of caloric restriction, otherwise known as CR, it is a way of down-regulating the Insulin/IGF-1 pathway, activating AMP Kinase and increasing NAD by eating less. In other words, it is a way of limiting your calories and turning your body’s energy use into more efficient energy production.
Paul McGlothin, is the co-author of Living the CR Way and a researcher on caloric restriction. McGlothin says that with caloric restriction, your “health goes through extraordinary changes.” Some of these benefits he lists are: slowed cardiovascular aging, lower blood pressure, reduced cholesterol, decreased arterial plaque, better cognition, more energy and increased life expectancy.
Whether you study nutrition or health, or are just curious about losing weight, this lecture provides an interesting insight into an increasingly popular lifestyle.
