Each year, 3.5 million children under five die as a result of malnutrition, and millions more suffer the effects of poor early nutrition. The impact of malnutrition during the critical 1,000 days of pregnancy through to age two is irreversible–but these consequences are preventable. Food and nutritional security is based on three operational principles: availability, access and utilization.
